Please explain to me why there is a League of Women Voters and how the Republic would be diminished if they didn’t exist?

Illinois League of Women Voters Debate Moderator Objects to Recitation of Pledge of Allegiance

It happened Wednesday night at the beginning of a debate between Democratic incumbent Melissa Bean, GOP challenger Joe Walsh and Green Party candidate Bill Scheurer.  The debate for Illinois 8th congressional district took place at Grayslake Central High School. While League of Women Voters moderator Kathy Tate-Bradish began explaining the rules of the debate an audience member raised his hand and (when called upon) asked if they were going to start with the Pledge of Allegiance. When she said no, the audience booed and almost all in the crowd of more than 300 stood and enthusiastically recited it anyway. Tate-Bradish, who joined in the pledge, issued a scolding when the crowd finished saying they are not allowed to disrespect her.

Just what objection do the Democrats have to the Pledge of Allegiance?  It used to be they just objected to the “under god” part.

I try to remember when things get sucky that I still live in the greatest country on the planet.  I always find the Star Spangled Banner uplifting.  Here’s stellar bassist Jeff Berlin performing his National Anthems medley.  Believe me, this is some hard shit to play.

It’s not that I’ve had nothing to post about, it’s that there is too much to post about, and real life gets in the way of sitting down and composing my thoughts.  Too much nasty shit is coming down the pike, and it sometimes gets overwhelming to to contemplate it all.  For instance:

Honestly, it just goes on and on and on and on.  No time for a breather.  We are swimming hard just to keep our heads above water, and it would be nice to see the tide turn in our favor.

But enough about what’s bothering me.  Let’s talk about you.  What’s going on with y’all right now?

Oh, and Aggie,  what do you think of these?

I’ve been at work all day, and I’m too tired to cobble together my own version of this story; besides, Andrew Breitbart does such a great job, why reinvent the wheel?  If you haven’t read this article, I am highly recommending it.

Apparently, the allure of a man who uses “words like “valor” and “courage” without irony,” will only take him so far, when he actually steps up and exercises those lofty sentiments with his actions. (more…)
