Can you even begin to imagine an American politician saying anything like this?

I can now haz tax deduction for being a witch?

In Romania, apparently.

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Romania has changed its labor laws to officially recognize witchcraft as a profession, prompting one self-described witch to threaten retaliation.

The move, which went into effect Saturday, is part of the government’s drive to crack down on widespread tax evasion in a country that is in recession.

In addition to witches, astrologists, embalmers, valets and driving instructors are now considered by labor law to be working real jobs, making it harder for them to avoid income tax.

For months the measure had been debated, protested by witches and mocked by the media.

On Saturday, a witch called Bratara told Realitate.net, the website of a top TV station, that she plans to cast a spell using black pepper and yeast to create discord in the government.

Silly Romanian witches.  They should know that black pepper and yeast are ineffective to create governmental discord.

Sea salt and Grey Poupon mustard is the ticket.

Seriously, I think there should be a Guild of Romanian Witches, Astrologists, Embalmers, Valets and Driving Instructors.™  People working real jobs have to stick together.

From Ace’s place.

This is the best news I’ve heard all year:

Freedom of Speech is prevailing in Geert Wilders’ case in the Netherlands!

Hell, yeah.

Gallery of the Intrepid: Memorial Day – Thank a veteran

Monday, May 31st, 2010

– Wiccapundit

On this Memorial Day, it’s time to remember that the day is not about taking off from work and grilling a few burgers with friends.  It’s about acknowledging the sacrifices made by countless men and women who have served this nation in the military.  Here at Red State Witch, we have regular commenters who were former military (Sebastian) as well as those who are current military (James S.).  There may be others also whose service we are not aware of.  Elphaba and I express our extreme appreciation to all of you for your service.  We thank you more than we can express.

The painting above is a 75′ x 25′ mural in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.  It was painted by the noted aviation artist Keith Ferris.  When viewed from the gallery in front of it, it is as if you were hanging in space 60 feet in front of the aircraft – a B-17 called Thunder Bird – during its bombing raid on a Luftwaffe airfield at Wiesbaden, Germany.  It is a extraordinary piece of work, and I never tire of seeing it (or the NASM) whenever I visit Washington.

I post this because I met the pilot of this aircraft.  He lived in my neighborhood, and when I was at his house once, I noticed some WWII memorabilia in his study.  I asked him what he had done in the war, and he said he had flown B-17s.  I mentioned how much I liked the Ferris mural of Thunder Bird, and he casually replied that he had been flying the aircraft on that raid.  He didn’t wear his service overtly or speak about it without prompting; to him it was simply a job he and his crew had to do. The average age of officers flying these aircraft in combat was about 21, and the average crewman’s age was maybe 19.  Simply amazing.

If you want to get a feel for how dangerous and difficult this “job” was, read Martin Caidin’s Flying Forts: The B-17 in World War II.  Some of the combat stories will curl your hair.

No matter what war, what theatre of operation, or what peacetime duty they have performed, anyone who has served our nation in uniform should be remembered this day.

about the religion of peace religion of hate and intolerance.

– Elphaba

I posted recently about Geert Wilders, the Dutch politician who sees Islam for what it really is (although, IMO, you have to be deaf, dumb and blind not to see through the liberal propaganda).  Mr. Wilders produced a short film called Fitna (you can watch it here), that puts no words in the mouth of Islam; rather, it puts forth words  exactly as they are written in the Koran, and the documented words and actions  of Imams and Muslims themselves.  If you haven’t seen it, you really should take the time to do so, and share it around. *Warning: the images shown are graphic and violent; hey are also very, very real.

Mr. Wilders is being prosecuted by his own government for “hate speech” against Islam.  This travesty of democracy and free speech can be followed at Geert Wilders’ website.  More importantly, you can contribute money to his defense.  We cannot afford to ignore his plight, because we are all vulnerable to this threat.

It’s a serious matter; even their pets are indoctrinated:

Okay, okay, so that last photo’s a joke, but trust me; this is no laughing matter.  The goal of Islam is world domination, and it is time to say no to political correctness and time to do everything that we can to preserve freedom.

Fuck political correctness.

Holland’s Best Hope: Geert Wilders

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

– Elphaba

Extremely well said!  I have been utterly befuddled by Europe’s apparent lack of discomfort with the spread of radical Islam.  European Muslims repeatedly make the news for their anti-West, ant-semitic, anti-Christian activities, openly calling for Islamic domination: sharia law and the downfall of Western culture.  If Europeans aren’t nervous about this, then they are either ignorant or willfully stupid.  The British Government, for instance,  seems to have a cultural death wish.

May Geert Wilders find fertile ground for the common sense he is attempting to sow in the Netherlands; may he inspire the rest of Europe, and may he be protected from the filth that will attempt to kill him for it.
